Accomplishments & Challenges
We are proud of what we have accomplished so far and would like to do more – with your help.
|Funding Shortfall:Each medical mission costs between $20,000 and $30,000, excluding indirect costs. The money pays for the drugs, medical equipment and supplies used to treat thousands of patients. We have not been successful in raising the amount needed each year.||2,000 patients on average are treated during each medical mission. Over 20,000 men, women and children have been treated so far.The cost to treat each patient averages a low $10 to $15 – far lower that what comparable care costs in Nigeria, USA and other countries.|
|Planning and Logistics:Organizing a medical mission of this size presents significant planning and logistic challenges. Medical equipment and supplies have to be sourced, transported and ready for use. Ditto for arrangements regarding venue, publicity, crowd management, security, patient intake/management, etc.||Due to funding shortfall, we cannot afford the services of professional event organizers. So each year, a small team of people volunteer to plan and organize the medical mission.A BIG kudos to our volunteers! If you’s like to help organize the next medical mission, please contact us.|
|Managing a Large Patient Population:Screening, treating (including major surgeries) and counseling thousands of patients in less than a week.||We have been able to accomplish this only with the generous contributions of money, time and skills from our members, supporters and volunteers.|
